I have some great news! We finally have the dates for Sensei Ota’s Spring 2015 Seminar. Be sure to mark these in your calendars. Sensei Ota will be with us from Thursday, May 21st to Sunday, May 24th. Seminars will be happening on each of these days. Stay tuned to find out the exact seminar time and rank requirements. There will be seminar classes for all ranks, as well as those reserved only for Shodan and higher.
For some of us who might want to find out a little bit more about Sensei Ota, I can provide you with some really high level information right here. At the end of this post, there will be some links you can follow to find out more information.
Sensei Ota has had a long history with martial arts, spanning 60 years! In fact, Sensei Ota is the highest ranking Matsubayashi Shorin-Ryu practitioner in the world, living outside Okinawa Japan. Sensei Ota is a very humble man. He runs a very small Dojo in California, and travels much of the world spreading the word about Shorin-Ryu training. He focuses (in my opinion) very much on developing effective technique. By effective I mean leveraging velocity, core strength and timing to deliver effective strikes. It’s truly an honour to have such a highly regarded practitioner working so closely with us here. He comes to visit us twice a year. This year, we’ll be going to our sister club in Whitby to train with him. Seminar classes are quite small, around 20 people – so you really get to work closely with him.
Here is some additional information about Sensei Ota. Take some time and learn a little bit about his philosophies. He’s truly an inspiration to those of us who are striving to develop truly effective technique.
